‘The Flash’ Film Casts Sasha Calle In The Role Of Supergirl

Let the haters loose! Surely, there will be angry mobs of toxic fans over this latest news in the world of DC Films, where a new Supergirl is being introduced in Ezra Miller’s Flash movie, and…well, let’s just say she looks nothing like Melissa Benoist.

Deadline reports The Young and the Restless actress Sasha Calle has been cast as Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl in The Flash. This comes after an extensive casting search conducted by WB and director Andy Muschietti, with the Columbian-American actress won out. So no, there won’t be a blonde-haired, blue-eyed Supergirl in the DCEU.

What we don’t know is how big the Supergirl role is initially. The Flash is yet another superhero movie dealing with multiverses, so she could either be from our Earth or from another. For instance, there will be multiple actors in the role of Batman.  Whatever the case, it’s likely that Calle will be sporting the cape and costume of Supergirl for a while. The character was teased in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, and there were rumors last year that a Supergirl film was in the works but had been canceled.

I love this news, and look, if you’ve got a problem with Supergirl being a Latina then that’s tough. You’ve got multiple seasons of the TV series to go back and watch in a loop if that makes you more comfortable. I’ve seen Calle on Y&R (Yes, I’m an occasional watcher of soaps) where she’s been playing Lola over the last few years, and she’s got the goods. This is a brilliant move that could pay off in a big way.

Do yourself a favor and check out Muschietti’s Instagram video of when he broke the news to Calle. It’s damned sweet.
