‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’, ‘Minari’ Lead The 2021 SAG Award Nominations

Yesterday’s Golden Globes nominations were a complete shit show, especially when it came to movies predominantly with people of color. But today the Screen Actors Guild made up for that somewhat with their nominations, which were pretty sensible and well-rounded. Still one glaring omission, but they can’t all be perfect.

Tied for the lead with three nominations each were Minari and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, with actors Steven Yeun, Yuh-Jung Young, and Chadwick Boseman up for contention. Boseman got in for that film and Da 5 Bloods. Others up for acting awards include Amy Adams for Hillbilly Elegy, Riz Ahmed for Sound of Metal, Gary Oldman for Mank, Vanessa Kirby for Pieces of a Woman, and others that nobody will be surprised by.

I’m sorta shocked they left out Delroy Lindo for Da 5 Bloods, though. He failed to get nominated in the Best Supporting Actor field, and yet somehow Jared Leto somehow got in for The Little Things, a film that has received lukewarm response and no stand-out performances at all. Eh.

The rest of the nominees are below. The 27th Screen Actors Guild Awards will be presented on TNT and TBS on Sunday, April 4th, 2021 at 9 P.M. EST.
