Sony Reshuffles Release Dates As ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ Heads To November, ‘Uncharted’ To 2022

Sony Pictures was ahead of the game last year when they looked at the COVID-19 situation and knew the right decision was to move their entire slate to 2021. Those best-laid plans, however, weren’t enough because shit is still out of control and those early target dates can’t possibly hold up. So now Sony is doing like so many others and moving four of their most anticipated titles to later in the year or into 2022.

The highest-profile film by far is Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which was to be a big box office draw for Sony this summer. It moves off of its June 11th date to November 11th. The cast for that one includes Paul Rudd, McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Carrie Coon, along with originals Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts.

I guess to help mitigate the disappointment fans of the franchise are feeling, a new ghost was revealed and he basically looks like a blue Slimer.

Other moves include Sony’s Cinderella, from Blockers director Kay Cannon and starring Camila Cabello as the titular princess. It moves from February 5th to July 16th. Something tells me that isn’t far enough and it may end going to streaming. Just a hunch.

Sorry, I know this one’s going to hurt. You’ll have to wait a bit longer for Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, as it vacates the Easter weekend release and hops over to June 11th. Again, this one has all of the signs of an eventual release on digital somewhere.

And finally there’s Uncharted, the forever-developing video game adaptation starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. I don’t think it was going to be ready in time for its July 16th date, anyway, and which makes Sony’s decision to push it all the way to February 11th 2022 unsurprising.
