Darren Aronofsky And Jared Leto Reunite For Blumhouse Horror ‘Adrift’

Darren Aronofsky. And Jared Leto? How does this unexpected Requiem for a Dream reunion happen all of the sudden? Who cares? We have Blumhouse to thank for it and that’s good enough.

Deadline reports Aronofsky and Leto will reunite for Adrift, which will be produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse. The film is based on a short story by The Ring author Koji Suzuki, and is set in the dead calm of the open sea where a strange distress call attracts a fishing boat. As a lonely deckhand takes control of the ship as it’s towed to shore, he soon discovers why the others refer to it as a “ghost ship.”

The supernatural aspect of the story makes sense for a Blumhouse film, but we haven’t seen Aronofsky tackle anything quite like this before. Leto is a much bigger star now than when he and Aronofsky first worked together. He’s due to be seen next in crime thriller The Little Things, which opens this week, followed by Morbius.

This won’t be first thing for Aronofsky as he’s set to direct Brendan Fraser in The Whale, and that production begins in March.
