‘Borderlands’: Kevin Hart Confirmed For Roland Role Opposite Cate Blanchett

When Kevin Hart does action movies, they still tend to be a blend with his usual brand of comedy. And that should be the case, as well, for his next film, an adaptation of the Borderlands video game directed by Eli Roth.

Lionsgate has announced that Kevin Hart is joining Cate Blanchett in Borderlands, based on the hit first-person/action-RPG shooter video games. This is confirmation of a story that has been brewing since last December. Hart will take the role of Roland, described as a “decent man and grizzled veteran, as well as a former member of the Crimson Lance who now operates as a soldier.” Blanchett is set for the role of the magical siren, Lilith.

Borderlands follows a group of Vault Hunters who journey to the planet Pandora to search for a hidden vault that contains advanced alien tech. Along the way they’ll battle the planet’s natural predators, outlaws, and other bandits looking for the same thing.

Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) will write the script for Roth, best known for his Hostel films, to direct.
