Ben Affleck To Direct Disney’s ‘Keeper Of The Lost Cities’ Adaptation

Ben Affleck took a breather from Hollywood for a little while, but now he’s busier than ever. Not only will we see him in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, but Affleck has both Deep Water and The Last Duel arriving later this year. On top of that, he’s planning to direct The Long Goodbye, a movie on the making of Chinatown. And while that would seem to be enough to keep anyone occupied for a couple of years, Affleck is doing something he’s never done before which is direct a YA film for Disney.

Deadline reports Affleck is attached to direct Keeper of the Lost Cities, based on a series of YA novels by Shannon Messenger. The story follows Sophie Foster, a 12-year-old high school senior with extraordinary telepathic abilities who learns they come with a deadly secret buried within her.

This is a potential franchise for Disney, as they expand content that could appear on both the big screen or Disney+. It would also be a major change-of-pace for Affleck. Previously, he directed The Town, Gone Baby Gone, Argo, and The Town, many of which were acclaimed dramas geared for older audiences.

It’s unclear when Affleck would have the time to begin filming. He’s currently shooting Hypnotic, an action film directed by Robert Rodriguez. He also will suit up, for the last time most likely, as Batman for a role in The Flash.
