Ben Affleck Is Done Making Movies Like ‘Armageddon’ So Don’t Even Ask

This is an interesting moment in the career of Ben Affleck. Not only is he receiving Oscar buzz for his performance in basketball drama The Way Back, but he’ll be suiting up as Batman one last time for The Flash and will be part of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. But if you were hoping to see more of Affleck “going big” so to speak, that’s unlikely to happen any time soon

As part of Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Affleck shoots down the notion of doing some of those blockbuster roles he was eager to take as a young man, singling out Michael Bay’s Armageddon in particular…

“People with whom you can identify are more interesting to me because I no longer have the ability to do something when I’m bored halfway through it and hate it,” Affleck said, adding “I’m just looking to do stuff that is personally rewarding. I think my Armageddon days are behind me.”

Now look, some are trying to paint this as Affleck taking a shot at Armageddon but I don’t think that’s the case. Sure, Affleck has pointed out how dumb the plot is before, but in this case I think he’s just drawing the distinction between paycheck movies and those that give him creative joy.

Of course, he could’ve just mentioned the awful paycheck movie he did that was literally called Paycheck.
