‘The Bad Batch’: Ming-Na Wen Confirms Her Return As Fennec Shand In The ‘Clone Wars’ Spinoff

The more Ming-Na Wen the better, I always say. She was the best thing about Agents of SHIELD for seven seasons, and she was a welcome presence as assassin Fennec Shand in season one of The Mandalorian. Turns out, she’s been even better in season two alongside the returned Boba Fett. And now we know Ming-Na will have an even larger presence in the Star Wars universe, as Fennec Shand will appear in the upcoming animated series, The Bad Batch.

Ming-Na confirmed the news to StarWars.com after Fennec Shand was spotted in the trailer for The Bad Batch, a spinoff of The Clone Wars. Since that story predates The Mandalorian, Shand isn’t quite the killer we come to know her as…

“She’s cutting her teeth as a bounty hunter in The Bad Batch,” Wen says. “She’s still a loner, a drifter. There’s just a sense of more recklessness about her, just bravado. You know, a young punk. She’s more adventurous and willing to take greater risks because she doesn’t know what the consequences are.”

As for her current partnerships with Boba Fett and Din Djarin, Ming-Na says it’s going to take some getting used to for Shand…

“I think that’s a huge transition for her and I think also more vulnerable, a little bit. You don’t see it, but for me – in my mind, in my head – once you’ve died, once you’ve been killed, it takes a little bit of that edge off of feeling like you can get out of anything.”

“So I think she’s also just trying to figure out how best to play the new game. She’s always playing a bit of chess here and there, figuring things out. But, ultimately, at this point in her life she’s still quite the mercenary.”

The season finale of The Mandalorian is tomorrow, December 18th, and Shand will have a big part to play in it. Something tells me her partners may want to keep an eye on her, though.
