‘The Stand-In’ Trailer: Drew Barrymore Has Her Life Stolen…By Drew Barrymore

The only thing better than a comedy with one Drew Barrymore? A comedy with dos Drew Barrymores. While she’s currently charming audiences to death with her new talk show, Barrymore also has time for dual roles in The Stand-In.

In her first leading feature role since 2015’s Me Without You (Dammit, I’m tearing up just remember it!!), Barrymore stars as Candy Black, an actress once considered America’s Sweetheart, but has now been ordered to serve time  in rehab. Instead of going, she hires her stand-in, an aspiring actress (also played by Barrymore), to take her place, only to have the woman completely steal her identity, life, and boyfriend.

It’s a ridiculous premise, but at least for me I like Barrymore best when she’s having loads of fun and she appears to be in this. However, we should probably expect this to be deeper than it appears. Behind the  camera is Jamie Babbit, who directed the influential dark comedy But I’m a Cheerleader, 2015’s Addicted to Fresno, as well as episodes of Russian Doll. The script is by Four Lions co-writer Sam Bain.

Also starring Ellie Kemper, Michelle Buteau, Andrew Rannells, Michael Zegen, and Holland Taylor, The Stand-In opens December 11th in theaters, VOD, and digital.
