‘Suicide Squad’: David Ayer Says His Cut Is “F*cking Amazing”, Admits To Being “A Good Soldier’ For Studio

I’ve been saying that Warner Bros. messed up big time by letting fans dictate their moves, such as caving in to pressure by greenlighting Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Since then, we’ve seen a similar uproar over David Ayer’s 2017 film Suicide Squad, which did really well at the box office, won an Oscar, but is considered a creative failure due to behind the scenes issues. Ayer has been quite vocal in wanting to release his cut of the movie, and he can’t stop singing its praises.

Of course, that’s like me saying “Travis Hopson is the best film critic ever. He is truly amazing.”

Ayer’s tweet is interesting, though, because it isn’t all patting himself on the back. He also talks about how he was a loyal soldier in 2017 by saying all of the things he needed to say in hyping the studio version. That much is well-documented, anyway, but it’s refreshing that he cops to it and his mistakes on the script.

The Comic-Con trailer Ayer refers to is pretty killer. I remember being there for the world premiere of it and going absolutely bonkers for the edginess and somber tone of it. Most of what we saw would be scrubbed out by controlling Warner Bros. execs who wanted a Deadpool movie, leading to the mediocre version we saw in theaters.

I really want to see Ayer’s cut of Suicide Squad, but doubt it’ll ever happen. However, it would be cool if it were shown as part of a double-feature with James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, or included in a Bluray release.
