'Tragedy Girls' Trailer: Brianna Hildebrand & Alexandra Shipp Are Fame-Obsessed Killers

In the wake of Ingrid Goes West our social media culture is getting skewered like never before, but the film that may cut the deepest is Tragedy Girls. While we may never get to see Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Storm in the same X-Men movie (fingers crossed that we do), we at least get to see Brianna Hildebrand and Alexandra Shipp together in this one, and they looks like being murderously snarky may be their mutant power.

Directed by Tyler MacIntyre with Josh Hutcherson, Craig Robinson, Kevin Durand, and Jack Quaid co-starring, the film centers on two high school girls looking to raise their social media profile as true crime reporters. They soon come to realize they could get more retweets and likes if they just commit the crimes themselves. Am I the only one scared somebody will actually do this?

Here's the synopsis: Best friends Sadie and McKayla are on a mission to boost their social media fandom as amateur crime reporters hot on the trail of a deranged local serial killer. After they manage to capture the killer and secretly hold him hostage, they realize the best way to up get scoops on future victims would be to, you know, murder people themselves. As the @TragedyGirls become an overnight sensation and panic grips their small town, can their friendship survive the strain of national stardom? Will they get caught? Will their accounts get verified?

Tragedy Girls played at SXSW earlier this year and got some really glowing reviews. I can't wait to check it out for myself on October 20th!
