That Hashtag Show claims that Cena is one of the two frontrunners for the lead role in Shazam!, one of the long list of upcoming DC Comics movies. The other contender is Joshua Sasse of ABC's Galavant, the mid-season fantasy series that was recently canceled.
David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) will direct the film which follows 12-year old Billy Batson, who becomes the hero Captain Marvel (expect them to not use that name) when he says the word "SHAZAM!", an acroynym for the mythological gods that give him his powers.
Of the two, Cena is the biggest get, obviously, and he has the square jaw, physique, and wholesome superhero persona to play the role perfectly. He's been on a role lately, between his hilarious work on Southpaw Regional Wrestling as Lance Catamaran, HBO's Tour de Pharmacy, and this summer's war film, The Wall.
Shazam! will likely be the next DCEU film after Aquaman, with shooting set to begin in early 2018. A supposed early synopsis has also emerged on the site, which you can check out below:
Based on the DC Comics character “Shazam!” Billy Batson becomes Captain Marvel, the world’s mightiest mortal, when he says the magic word “Shazam! The name is an acronym for six gods and heroes of the ancient world as well as their attributes. The wisdom of Solomon, strength of Hercules, stamina of Atlas, power of Zeus, courage of Achilles and speed of Mercury.
