Matt Damon Undergoes Big Changes In New Trailer For 'Downsizing'

Hot on the heels of playing Toronto, the first full trailer for Alexander Payne's Downsizing has been revealed, and it's definitely a change of pace for the director who gave us Election, Sideways, and Nebraska.

It almost sounds like the beginnings of a dystopian sci-fi thriller: in a future racked by overpopulation and climate change, a team of Norwegian scientists develop technology to shrink people down to five-inches tall. Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig are a married couple who agree to the procedure in seeking of a brand new life of prosperity, only to have one of them back out after the other has already been shrunk.

The satirical tone is evident but also Payne's exploration of some pretty heady themes, and it will be interesting to see how he walks that balance. Then again he's among the best at mixing serious drama with black comedy so I have the utmost faith he can pull it off.  Also starring Jason Sudeikis, Christoph Waltz, Laura Dern, Neil Patrick Harris, and Hong Chau, Downsizing opens December 22nd.
