Jennifer Lawrence On Why She's Back For 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix'

Following the mediocre X-Men: Apocalypse, 20th Century Fox's mutant franchise was set to undergo an evolution Charles Xavier would be proud of. The contracts for most of its biggest stars were up, and most sounded like they were ready to split. Jennifer Lawrence was the most obvious case; she didn't seem all that pumped to be playing Mystique again and pretty much had one foot out the door.

And yet she's back, sporting the blue paint and red hair as Mystique in X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Not only that, but everybody from the previous movies has agree to return. Speaking with Digital Spy, Lawrence clued them in on why she changed her mind, and it has everything to do with the fans...

"My contract was up, I didn't have to do another one, but if I didn't do another one, what would her story be? I felt like I owed it to the fans, and I owed it to the character to follow her journey, to be fair to the movies, and not be like, 'I don't want to do another X-Men!' And then I just never show up and everyone's very confused about the Mystique they've been following for the last three films."

That's pretty cool of her, although she still doesn't appear all that happy about it. Perhaps she agreed to come back if Mystique could get a proper send off?  X-Men: Dark Phoenix opens November 2nd 2018, but you can see Lawrence next in Darren Aronofsky's wild thriller, mother! on September 15th.
