'Indiana Jones 5' Won't Bring Shia LaBeouf's Character Back

Something else for you to celebrate on Labor Day besides the labor movement giving you another holiday off; you won't have to worry about Shia LaBeouf coming back for Indiana Jones 5. Yeah, that was a legit concern since 'Crystal Skull' writer David Koepp was asked back to pen the script, but he confirms to EW that LaBeouf's Mutt Williams won't be swinging into the anticipated sequel.

"Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say…  and the Shia LaBeouf character is not in the film. We’re plugging away at it. In terms of when we would start, I think that’s up to Mr. Spielberg and Mr. Ford… I know we’ve got a script we’re mostly happy with. Work will be endless, of course, and ongoing, and Steven just finished shooting The Post… If the stars align, hopefully it’ll be his next film.”

It certainly seemed like Mutt was taking over, didn't it? What with Indy's hat landing at his feet at the end of the last movie. But those were different times when LaBeouf looked like a viable candidate to pick up the torch, and it was also before Disney had the franchise's rights. It has only been about Harrison Ford since they came aboard, although we know at some point they will have to go in a different direction. Just don't expect it to be LaBeouf.

Indiana Jones 5 is set for July 10th 2010.
