Frances McDormand Is Ferocious In Trailer For 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri'

Martin McDonagh knows dark comedy, and like his brother John Michael (Calvary, War on Everyone) every film he does has that tone to begin with. Whether it ends that way is another story. Martin's two films so far, the brilliantly profane In Bruges and followup Seven Psychopaths showcase his razor sharp dialogue and humor, with the former earning him an Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay. The same Oscar buzz is starting to build for his latest, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, both for him and his star Frances McDormand.

McDonagh's pitch black wit shines through in this new trailer, although it's in a story that is anything but funny. The title refers to the large billboards placed in the town of Ebbing by a mother who is fed up with the cops' inability or unwillingness to find her daughter's killer. It's a sad subject and this trailer is more downbeat than the one from weeks back, but everything about this looks terrific and like one of the year's best.  Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson, John Hawkes, Peter Dinklage, Abbie Cornish, Caleb Landry Jones, and Lucas Hedges round out an amazing cast.

Three Billboards opens November 10th.
