Ben Affleck's Pumped For "Awesome" 'Justice League' Vehicles, But He's Still Out Of 'The Batman'

Heh heh. Every time Ben Affleck tries to sound excited about his future as Batman it just makes me laugh. Dude is out, he just hasn't admitted it yet. It began just before Comic-Con but the evidence was there long before then that his relationship with Warner Bros. was on the skids. His overly enthusiastic performance in Hall H just made it a little more obvious. And with further reports adding fuel to the fire, including news that Matt Reeves' The Batman will be a standalone effort, we're basically just waiting for Warner Bros. to make his departure official. Actions speak louder than words, and Affleck taking his next project, Red Platoon, over to Sony Pictures says a lot.

Pouring on more gasoline is THR who noted in their story about Leonardo DiCaprio being sought for the Joker movie is that Affleck definitely won't star in The Batman.

"War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves is developing a Batman stand alone that, according to sources, will not star Ben Affleck, who plays the caped crusader in the DC Universe movies."

I do think there has been some misreporting going on by a lot of these trades, though. Reeves has said himself that The Batman will be in-continuity, making it part of the DCEU. It may be a standalone, but what happens in the film matters, and thus it SHOULD star Affleck. That it doesn't tells me that he's totally finished. I've heard some people suggest that he may not do The Batman, but he'll just come back for future Justice League movies. Doubt it. If you think audiences will be confused with all of the non-continuity spinoffs Warner Bros. wants, just imagine how that would work. Warner Bros. is being stupid right now but they surely won't be that stupid.

All of that said, Affleck would like you to know he's super excited about Justice League. Specifically, he's pumped for the vehicles and stuff. It may be the only time he gets to ride in the Flying Fox before some other guy in the Bat-suit takes over. He tells  People, which also debuted the above image...

“Wonder Woman is very powerful, Aquaman is very badass — he’s got very strong and stubborn energy. Flash is a lot of fun and full of life and Cyborg is just a very smart and independent person. And we have some new vehicles that are really awesome, like the Flying Fox, it’s so big that it can transport the whole League and can carry a Batmobile.”

Nope, not buying it.  You just keep going through the motions, sir.

Justice League opens November 17th.
