Punch Drunk DVDs: 'Baywatch', 'My Cousin Rachel', 'Batman & Harley Quinn', And More!

An action-comedy adaptation of the beloved 80’s TV series, Baywatch sees Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson inherit the David Hasslehoff role of Mitch Buchannon, superstar lifeguard. When a crime-wave hits his beach jurisdiction, Buchannon puts together a team of equally skilled lifeguards to help him take down the criminals. Unfortunately for Mitch, one of these recruits is Matt Brody (Zac Efron), a cocky former Olympian who plays by his own rules. The duo reluctantly work together, butting heads the whole time, as they go undercover to save their bay.

We Said: “Seth Gordon is a smart enough director to know what he's got, and doesn't get in the way of his cast. Some of the gags feel ad-libbed, especially between Johnson and Efron, and there's a ‘I can't believe we're making a stupid Baywatch movie’ vibe that is sort of infectious. Yeah, Baywatch is stupid, and crude, and full of endless amounts of cheesecake (again, plenty on both sides), but it's also exactly the kind of movie the summer season is made for.” Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Based on the classic British novel, My Cousin Rachel tells the story of Philip (The Hunger Games’ Sam Claflini) a young Englishman out to avenge the death of his cousin by confronting his missing wife Rachel (Rachel Weisz), who he feels is to blame. His plans change drastically, however, once he meets the beautiful and mysterious Rachel, and winds up falling for her charms instead. Suspense builds as the pair grow closer and Rachel’s true motivations are uncovered.

We Said: “Directed by Roger Michell, My Cousin Rachel is as much passionate as it is despondent, horrific as it is mysterious. Above all, it paints a picture of villainy through the eyes of a man who plays the victim.” Rating: 3 out of 5
