'Mary Poppins Returns' Motion Poster, Emily Blunt Lifts Spirits And Her Umbrella

When you think about the number of movies Disney has coming up in the next few years, it's simply mind-boggling. Think beyond Marvel and Star Wars, there's also their animated slate, Pixar's stuff, and most forgotten of all are their wildly successful live-action films. Not just the remakes like Jon Favreau's The Lion King (which apparently impressed at D23) and Aladdin, but others like Mary Poppins Returns. And it's that latter film which showed off footage of Emily Blunt as the magical nanny, as well as releasing a new teaser and motion poster.

Unfortunately, the teaser hasn't been made public yet but I imagine it will very soon. The film, directed by Into the Woods' Rob Marshall, takes place 25 years after the original movie as the U.K. is going through a depression. The grown-up Michael and Jane Banks (Ben Whishaw and Emily Mortimer) are facing very real problems, including a death in the family and their home's foreclosure. But their spirits are lifted with the return of Poppins, who comes gliding in on her umbrella to save the day. There will be song, there will be dance, there will be animated birds chirping everywhere. Angela Lansbury, Dick Van Dyke, and Lin-Manuel Miranda co-star.

Mary Poppins Returns opens Christmas Day 2018.
