'Suite Francais' With Michelle Williams Is Finally Coming...To Lifetime

This is news I've actually known about for a while but assumed it was common knowledge. However, it turns out that it wasn't. Oh well. Remember the potential Oscar contender Suite Francais, the Saul Dibb-directed period drama with a cast led by Michelle Williams, Matthias Schoenaerts, Kristin Scott Thomas, Sam Riley, Ruth Wilson, and Margot Robbie? It's been out in the U.K. for a couple of years already but Harvey Weinstein has never seen fit to release it here for whatever his reasons are for being possessive this time. Well, he's finally relented, but not in the way any of us could have hoped.

Suite Francais has been quietly dumped onto Lifetime, due to air on May 22nd. If all of this sounds a bit familiar, it's because Harvey did the same thing to Nicole Kidman's Grace of Monaco not too long ago. So this is becoming a thing.  An adaptation of Irene Nemirovsky's novel, the story centers on dangerous love affair between a French woman and the German officer assigned to watch over her in Nazi-occupied France.

The handful of people I know who've seen it say it isn't a terrible movie but not the awards player that level of talent should command. Well, at least the rest of us won't have to pay for a ticket.
