Mummies Are Real In First Footage And Poster For 'The Mummy' Starring Tom Cruise

Full disclosure: I am a HUGE fan of the  Mummy movies with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. Well, the first two of them, anyway. So I wasn't too thrilled over Universal's reboot of The Mummy even with Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe taking part in the action. But it's the big movie in their interconnected Monster-verse, which got off to a rocky start with Dracula Untold, and now the first footage has been released ahead of this weekend's full trailer.

So what's the verdict? Damn, this doesn't look very fun at all. But then this is only 16-seconds of footage, and at least it has Cruise insisting that the Mummy (played by Sofia Boutella) is indeed real. I'm guessing doubters will be convinced soon enough. At least they appear to be action movies and not horrors because the latter would never work nowadays.

Directed by Alex Kurtzman with Jake Johnson, Annabelle Wallis, and Courtney B. Vance (I bet he's a doubter) co-starring, The Mummy opens June 9th 2017.
