Ben Mendelsohn Takes Villain Role In 'Robin Hood: Origins'

Is there a movie that isn't immediately made better by the presence of Ben Mendelsohn? He's one of the best things about this weekend's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as the villainous Orson Krennic, and now he's giving us a reason to pay attention to Robin Hood: Origins, because there really wasn't one before.

Variety reports Mendelsohn will be doing what he's so good at, playing the bad guy as the Sheriff of Nottingham in the potential blockbuster franchise. Taron Egerton leads the way as Robin Hood with Jamie Foxx as Little John, Eve Hewson as Maid Marian, and Jamie Dornan as Will Scarlett. Joby Harold's script is a gritty take on the classic tale with Robin Hood a war-hardened crusader who returns home and leads a revolt against the corrupt English monarchy.

Directed by Otto Bathurst, Robin Hood: Origins begins filming next year.
