First Trailer For Sean Penn's 'The Last Face' Starring Charlize Theron And Javier Bardem

Sean Penn has had a mixed track record as a director, but damn, he'd probably kill for someone to say something nice about The Last Face. The film was trashed mercilessly at Cannes, only made worse by having his then-girlfriend and star Charlize Theron dump him during production. Damn, was it that bad??? "This script is terrible, so terrible I must leave you."

Well maybe the first trailer will help conjure up some positive buzz. The wartime romance stars Theron as an activist who falls in love with a doctor (Javier Bardem) during a social and political uprising in Liberia. Well, it doesn't SOUND terrible, but I'm allergic to movies where pretty people have steamy romances while the world around them is on fire. Here's the synopsis:

Set against the devastating backdrop of war-torn Liberia, Miguel and Wren must find a way to keep their relationship alive in extraordinarily difficult conditions battling their mutual passion for the value of life matched by the intensity of their diametrically opposed opinions on how best to solve the conflict that surrounds them.

Also starring  Adèle ExarchopoulosJared Harris, and Jean Reno, The Last Face opens next year.
