If it seems like there is always a Beauty and the Beast movie on the way, that's not too far off. There was one not too long ago with Lea Seydoux and Vincent Cassel that few got to see stateside. The most memorable version of the classic fairy tale remains Disney's 1991 animated classic which means it's due for a live-action remake. Last summer we had the first teaser for the film and now EW has dropped some new images featuring stars Emma Watson and Dan Stevens.
The images reveal a lavish and colorful effort, including a shot of Watson in a stunning yellow dress. Obviously she takes on the role of Belle, with Stevens as the Beast whose cold heart she manages to thaw. Luke Evans, Stanley Tucci, Josh Gad, Kevin Kline, Ewan McGregor, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Emma Thompson, Audra McDonald, and Ian McKellen round out a cast of humans and CGI-animated characters. Here's the synopsis, although I'm pretty sure you know the story...
Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.
Directed by Bill Condon with new music written by Alan Menken and Tim Rice , Beauty and the Beast opens March 17th 2017.
