A couple of years ago Matthias Schoenaerts was set to lead an adaptation of Galveston, based on a crime novel by True Detective creator, Nic Pizzolatto. At the time Janus Metz (Armadillo) was directing, but we haven't heard anything on the project in a while. Well it turns out there have been some huge changes, and while I'm disappointed Schoenaerts is no longer involved it's tough to complain about who is stepping in.
Ben Foster and Elle Fanning are set to star in the film, with actress Melanie Laurent (Beginners, Inglourious Basterds) on board to direct. Yo. The story follows Roy Cady, who is diagnosed with a terminal illness on the same day he senses that his boss wants him dead. Walking into a death trap, Roy gets the better of his would-be killers, and takes a young woman he finds hiding in the apartment and makes a run for Galveston, only to have her cause more trouble.
Pizzolato wrote the screenplay himself, and we'll have to wait and see how he gels with Laurent. Filming kicks off in January.
