James Wan Promises 'Aquaman' Will Have Big Swashbuckling Adventure

Warner Bros. is doing their best to dispel the notion all of the DCU movies will be dark and overly serious. They've promised quite a bit more fun with upcoming movies Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Aquaman, and the latter's director is name-checking a couple of classics to define the tone he's going for.

James Wan got chatted up by Entertainment Tonight and he promised Aquaman would be full of high adventure, even mentioning Indiana Jones as an influence...

“I kind of don’t want to give too much away but know this: The spirit that I’m going for is like a classic sort of swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story, It’s ultimately a quest story in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Romancing the Stone.”

Well, that's definitely not grim 'n gritty, and let's hope audiences respond to the change in approach. Jason Momoa does comedy just as well as he does action, so he should be perfect for this kind of thing. Aquaman opens July 27th 2018.
