Star Trek star Chris Pine and Gugu Mbatha-Raw of the unfortunate Jupiter Ascending are headed back into space. The duo have joined Ava DuVernay's Disney adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s 1963 novel, "A Wrinkle in Time". They join Storm Reid, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling.
Pine and Mbatha-Raw will play parents Mr. and Mrs. Murry in the sci-fi/fantasy adventure film which centers on teen daughter Meg Murry as she and a friend travel through space and time to find their missing father. Both parents are renowned scientists, but the dad goes missing after working on something known as a tesseract. Since mom is too distracted by her work to notice, it's up to Meg to get the job done of tracking him down herself.
Frozen writer Jennifer Lee has written the screenplay. Mbatha-Raw was last seen in the courtroom drama The Whole Truth, while Pine may be a sleeper Oscar contender for Hell or High Water. [Variety/Deadline]
