While the fall months are typically when the prestige awards movies arrive, this year is sorta heavy on the blockbuster side. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Doctor Strange, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them are all on the way and guaranteed to be huge. But there's one more film that hopes to launch a franchise and it's Assassin's Creed, and new images of star Michael Fassbender in the video game adaptation have arrived.
Other than a single photo with co-star Marion Cotillard these entirely focus on Fassbender who plays Callum Lynch, a career criminal whose ancestor was the 15th-century assassin Aguilar. A mysterious organization linked to the Knights Templar straps Lynch into a machine that allows him to relive Aguilar's experiences, but it also helps him gain the knowledge and skills necessary to defeat the Templars in the present.
The game series has a huge following but we've seen in the past how that doesn't necessarily translate to a successful movie. However there's so much talent here, including director Justin Kurzel, that we should probably have high expectations. We'll see if it lives up to them when Assassin's Creed opens December 21st.
