Brie Larson Goes Guns Blazing In Trailer For Ben Wheatley's 'Free Fire'

It's impossible to predict what kind of film to expect out of Ben Wheatley at any given moment. From Kill List to Sightseers to A Field in England to this year's unhinged High-Rise, he's a filmmaker that walks to the beat of his own drum. While for me his work doesn't always attain the heights he sets out to achieve, there's no question Wheatley does more with genre than most directors aspire. And so with his latest A-lister heavy flick Free Fire he gets to play around with '70s-style action movies, and based on this trailer it's going to be one wild ride.

Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy, Sam Riley, Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer, Michael Smiley and Jack Reynor star in the Scorsese-produced film that has a very simple setup. An arms deal between two rival Boston gangs goes south and a bloody shootout ensues. From the moment Armie Hammer strolls up and Cillian Murphy says "Fuck the small talk, let's buy some guns" it's clear Wheatley is looking to have some fun, showing a slick style that I don't think we've seen from him before. This looks like his most easily accessible movie yet.

Look for Free Fire to arrive some time next year. Hopefully early.
