If it seems like you've been waiting a long time to watch Kate Winslet strut her stuff in The Dressmaker, it's because you have. The Australian comedy hit TIFF last year and has been on the festival circuit ever since, which is when I saw it earlier this year. But a release is right around the corner and a new trailer is here to go along with it.
Directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse with Liam Hemsworth, Hugo Weaving, Sarah Snook, and Judy Davis co-starring, the film really centers on Winslet as a glamorous dressmaker who left her small Australian home in disgrace, only to return years later seeking payback. But we aren't talking about murder; instead she changes their lives with a sewing needle and thread.
I found Winslet wonderfully devious and a lot of fun, but the combination of VERY grim drama and screwball humor doesn't always gel. The Dressmaker opens September 23rd.
