Such is the power of the WWE brand that they can not only produce sequel after sequel of tired franchises like The Marine and 12 Rounds, but it can also deliver a sequel to an animated movie nobody remembers. Surf's Up opened nearly a decade ago and grossed about $150M, which is pretty weak considering everybody seems to love animated penguins. Failing at a penguin movie is like a casino going bankrupt; it shouldn't happen and if it does that person needs to be fired. Well, Surf's Up 2 is a thing, and now it comes with 100% more WWE superstars than before.
Announced earlier this year, the first teaser for Surf's Up 2: Wavemania has arrived for anyone who has wondered what Vince McMahon would look like as a penguin. Answer: Like a boss. The film marks the directorial debut of Henry Yu, a protegee of renowned animator Genndy Tartakovsky. Here's the synopsis:
Cody Maverick, hungry for a new challenge, convinces an infamous big wave riding crew known as The Hang 5, voiced by WWE Superstars John Cena, The Undertaker, Triple H, WWE Diva Paige and Mr. McMahon, to let him join them on their journey to a mysterious surf spot known as The Trenches, where legend has it, they’ll find the biggest waves in the world. Cody soon discovers that the life he left behind might be more heroic than what any death-defying wave has to offer.
Enjoy it, folks. This is possibly the most action you're going to get out of The Undertaker for a while. Surf's Up 2 : Wavemania hits home release early next year, probably around WrestleMania time.
