Just a couple of months ago producer Brian Grazer let us know that a remake of Splash, which was originally directed by his buddy Ron Howard, was in the works. However, this wouldn't be an ordinary redo, but one with a "twist". The twist was pretty easy to figure out, but today it has indeed been confirmed: the mermaid will be a mer-man.
Deadline reports that Channing Tatum will play the mermaid, with Jillian Bell, who played the heel in 22 Jump Street opposite Tatum, set for the human role. The idea all sprung from Bell, too, who pitched it to producers and got the ball rolling. While no director has been slotted yet Marja-Lewis Ryan will write the script.
You know Tatum is going to go wild with a role like this, and that may be reason enough to be excited over a remake nobody was really asking for.
