It's still a little weird to me that Jared Leto's Joker is a part of Suicide Squad. He's such an uncontrollable character that it seems like he should be off doing his own thing, not hanging out as part of a team. And maybe that's how things will actually play out in the film, because he never seems to be spending much time with anybody other than Harley Quinn, and who can blame him?
The latest character piece centers on Joker who really just wants to "show off his toys". Let's be honest, nobody is going to make us forget about Heath Ledger's version of the maniacal villain, or Jack Nicholson's for that matter, which is why it's nice that Leto is putting his own spin on it rather than trying to ape what came before. Good move.
Directed by David Ayer, Suicide Squad opens August 5th.
