'Star Trek 4' Won't Recast Anton Yelchin's Chekov Role

Star Trek Beyond has its big premiere tonight at Comic-Con, but already J.J. Abrams and Paramount are looking forward to the future in anticipation of it being a hit. That said, any talk of Star Trek 4 must sadly be done with the tragic passing of Anton Yelchin in mind, and according to Abrams he has no intention of recasting the role of Chekov. He tells the Toronto Sun...

“I would say there’s no replacing him. There’s no recasting. I can’t possibly imagine that, and I think Anton deserves better."

As for the fate of the Russian navigator, that much remains up in the air...

“I have thought about it, we’re working on it, and it’s too early to talk about it."

Likely he'll either be killed off between movies or hopefully they'll write him a happy ending in Starfleet retirement or something. Star Trek Beyond opens July 22nd.
