Having helped define our idea of the buddy cop film with Lethal Weapon, the action movie with Predator, and modern noir with The Last Boy Scout, Shane Black is now taking all of his favorite genres and rolling them into one. The Nice Guys sends stars Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe back into the 1970s for a retro-style crime comedy that looks like it could be the hit of the summer. And now a new trailer has dropped to go along with the film's vintage stylings.
This old school promo is short on new footage but it's the presentation that really matters as it matches what Black is hoping to capture. Made to look like it was dug up out of a time capsule, the trailer showcases Gosling as a down on his luck detective who teams up with Crowe's hired thug to solve the case of a missing girl and the death of a porn star. And to do it they'll punch the crap out of anybody, or at least Crowe will while Gosling cowers and looks pretty.
Also starring Matt Bomer, Margaret Qualley, Ty Simpkins, and "introducing Kim Basinger", The Nice Guys opens May 20th. Check out the trailer below followed by a nifty ad for their fictional detective agency.
