Hope you weren't sitting by the TV eagerly anticipating Nicolas Winding Refn's Barbarella series. The project has been in the works forever over at Amazon Studios, but Refn has decided to tackle something else next that may wind up on another streaming service.
Refn is set to direct the pilot and act as showrunner for Les Italiens, an Italian TV series that Netflix may pick up. The 8-10 episode series is based on the Italian noir novels of Enrico Pandiani and centers on a squad of French/Italian policemen working in Paris’ famous Quai des Orfevres headquarters alongside tough and violent inspector, Pierre Mordenti.
This sounds like a nice fit for Refn, and it will be fascinating to see what he can in the serial format. Next up for him is his L.A. horror, The Neon Demon, which premieres at Cannes before being released by Amazon later this year. [Variety]
