Let's see...film noir, plus a handful of my favorite actors; Adrien Brody, Yvonne Strahovski, Campbell Scott, and Jennifer Beals (Roger Dodger reunion?). What's there not to like about Manhattan Night, a film I didn't remember existed until this morning? Eh, the trailer's kinda bland, but now you can check it out for yourself and decide.
Directed by Brian DeCubellis, the film is an adaptation of Colin Harrison's crime novel and stars Brody as a New York City journalist who stumbles into a dangerous story involving a widowed femme fatale. Here's the synopsis:
Based on Colin Harrison's acclaimed New York Times Notable Book of the Year Manhattan Nocturne, the film MANHATTAN NIGHT is a seductive thriller that tells the story of Porter Wren (Adrien Brody), a New York City tabloid writer with an appetite for scandal. In this modern version of a classic film noir, we follow Porter as he is drawn into a very nasty case of sexual obsession and blackmail - one that threatens his job, his marriage and his life.
The film was shot a couple of years ago, also not a good sign, and is set to open on May 20th. I'm going to hold out hope that it's better than this trailer suggests.
