Having long since established his geek cred with Spaced, the "Cornetto Trilogy", Star Wars: the Force Awakens, and Star Trek, Simon Pegg seems like a natural fit for Steven Spielberg's adaptation of pop culture-heavy Ready Player One. Fortunately, it looks like that's exactly what's going to happen.
Pegg is in talks to join Tye Sheridan and Olivia Cooke in Spielberg's film based on Ernest Cline's best-seller and cult favorite. If signed, he would play Orgen Morrow, the eccentric, '80s-loving creator of OASIS, the globally networked virtual reality world that serves as an escape to millions looking to get away from their bleak lives. When Morrow dies, he leaves behind clues within OASIS as part of a treasure hunt to receive his vast fortune.
Usually where Pegg goes his pal Nick Frost isn't too far behind. Here's hoping the two can be reunited in a film that seems perfectly suited for them both.
Ready Player One opens March 30th 2018. [THR]
