Does seem as if Werner Herzog's Gertrude Bell biopic Queen of the Desert is never going to come out? As if it will possibly go the way of Nicole Kidman's previous biopic, Grace of Monaco, which got dumped on the Lifetime Network? While there's still no firm release date, a new trailer has arrived that may be a sign of some news on that front.
Kidman stars as Bell, the British political officer, archaeologist, and explorer who was a fixture in Middle Eastern politics in the 1920s. The film debuted a year ago in Berlin and the silence has been deafening, especially with a supporting cast that includes James Franco, Damian Lewis, and Robert Pattinson as T.E. Lawrence aka Lawrence of Arabia. You'd think a desert romance with these stars would be powerful enough to get this film more attention.
Queen of the Desert is expected to open later this year, but we'll see about that.
