Lethal Weapon, The Last Boyscout, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang...Shane Black knows his way around R-rated buddy comedies. He didn't invent the genre, but he sure helped popularize it in the '80s and even brought a little bit of it back in Iron Man 3, which he directed and co-wrote. Now he's bringing it back once more with The Nice Guys, which will have Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe bouncing insults off one another for a couple of hours.
Set in 1970s Los Angeles, the film stars Gosling as a down-on-his-luck detective who teams with an enforcer played by Crowe to investigate the death of a porn star and the case of a missing girl. The two cases seem unrelated but they reveal a shocking conspiracy that reaches up to the highest levels of power.
Also starring Matt Bomer, Kim Basinger, and Margaret Qualley, The Nice Guys opens May 20th.
