David Oyelowo And Gugu Mbatha-Raw Join J.J. Abrams' 'God Particle'

Success opens up a lot of doors, and J.J. Abrams is ready to capitalize. The strong box office for 10 Cloverfield Lane has encouraged Paramount to revive God Particle, the sci-fi film Abrams is producing that has been in the works for years. And now with the project moving ahead, it's gained a pair of terrific stars in David Oyelowo and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

The film is to be directed by Julius Onah, who has been attached since 2012. It's the second feature for the Nigerian filmmaker (and DMV native), with the plot centering on an American space station crew left abandoned after a problem with a Hadron accelerator causes Earth to vanish entirely. The discovery the team makes challenges all they know about the fabric of reality as they fight for survival. Oren Uziel (Mortal Kombat: Legacy) wrote the script.

Paramount had the film as part of their genre InSurge label until it folded. They're so gung-ho for it now that they've already set it for release on February 24th 2017. [Variety]
