How is it that a film about the most shocking sports story of the last decade has flown so far under the radar? Lance Armstrong biopic The Program features a solid cast with Ben Foster as the disgraced cyclist, and a solid director in Stephen Frears. And yet nobody is talking about it, and the film will quietly begins its run on DirecTV next month. What's up with that?
A new trailer for the film doesn't offer any immediate answers. Chris O'Dowd, Dustin Hoffman, Jesse Plemons, and Guillaume Canet co-star in the true story of the doping scandal that turned Armstrong from hero to national embarrassment.
Unfortunately, any thought of Foster getting any kind of awards attention is out the window, but The Program could still be a good film when it opens on March 18th.
