To put it bluntly: far too many people have been sleeping on Triple 9 for way too long. The gritty cop drama has long boasted a jaw-dropping ensemble consisting of Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Winslet, Clifton Collins, Jr., Gal Gadot, Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Teresa Palmer, Aaron Paul, and Norman Reedus. Think that group shows up for just anybody? Of course not; they're all together for a chance to work with John Hillcoat, the director of tough, testosterone-fueled powerhouses like The Road, The Proposition, and Lawless. When the first trailer was released some weeks ago some started to finally take notice, but hopefully this brand new cut will turn people on to what should be one of 2016's top films.
Affleck is at the center of this one, playing a rookie cop who becomes the target of corrupt cops trying to pull off an impossible heist. This trailer is somehow more intense than the first, but the real hook is seeing all of these top-flight stars in the kind of cop movie we wouldn't expect to see them in. Think about it; you've got Wonder Woman, Falcon, and Daryl Dixon all in the same movie, and yet Kate Winslet looks like she could put all of them in their places.
Triple 9 opens February 19th 2016.
