Robert De Niro's long-developing passion project, The Comedian, finally has someone to star alongside the legendary actor. According to Deadline, De Niro will be joined by Jennifer Aniston in the stand-up comedy film which recalls his unforgettable role as Rupert Pupkin in The King Of Comedy.
The Comedian stars De Niro as a toxic stand-up comedian in the vein of Don Rickles. The screenplay was written by Art Linson, but the film's crude and vicious jokes were dreamed up by Jeffrey Ross, a veteran of Comedy Central roasts and the Friar's Club. Aniston plays a woman the comedian meets at a wedding and forges a close relationship with.
Mike Newell had come aboard to direct last May, but scheduling conflicts forced him out and now Taylor Hackford (Ray) is behind the camera. With Aniston attached there should be news on a firm start date soon.
