Natalie Portman is the Notorious RBG in 'On the Basis of Sex'

Never heard of the Notorious RBG? Then obviously you're not down with Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who has become a champion for women's rights and those of the working class through her storied legal career, and now she'll be played by Natalie Portman in a new film.

Portman will play Ginsburg in On the Basis of Sex, which will be directed by Marielle Heller, coming off strong Sundance buzz for The Diary of a Teenage Girl (my review of that here). Daniel Stiepelman's Black List-approved screenplay follows the many hurdles Ginsburg overcame in her fight for equal rights. In 1993 she became only the second female appointed to the Supreme Court.

We're going to be seeing a lot of Portman with her directorial debut A Tale of Love and Darkness debuting at Cannes; the Western Jane Got a Gun is arriving this fall, plus she has a couple of movies with Terrence Malick coming up. She also recently agreed to star in Annihilation, the next film by Ex Machina's Alex Garland.
