There are a number of movies on the way centered on infamous druglord Pablo Escobar, but only one will do it framed around a quirky teen romantic comedy. Andrea Di Stefano's directorial debut Paradise Lost stars Josh Hutcherson as a young American surfer who arrives in Columbia to visit his brother, only to fall madly in love with the perfect girl, Maria. All seems to be great until he's introduced to her uncle, who just so happens to be Escobar, played Benicio Del Toro.
With filming recently wrapped, Pathe International [via Bleeding Cool] has the first image of Del Toro in the role, preparing to snap a photo and even making that look intimidating. I imagine that will be a large part of the humor of the story, as Hutcherson's character will probably be scared witless by Escobar's every move, yet will need to convince him he's worthy of dating his niece. Or at least that's what it seems like, but we won't know more until a trailer hits.
Del Toro will soon leave the beautiful Columbian locale and rocket off into deep space for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. If that doesn't prove how versatile an actor he is then nothing else will.
