The 'Point Break' remake you didn't want has a director you've never heard of

While many may have hoped that announcement of a Point Break remake would go away in the two years since, it is indeed happening and Alcon Entertainment has just taken a big step forward. They've just revealed that Ericson Core will be the guy to put a new spin on the iconic 1991 action thriller that starred Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves.

So who in the blue Hell is Ericson Core? He's mostly been at the helm for a number of television commercials, but did direct the Mark Wahlberg football drama, Invincible. He hasn't done much of note since then, and it comes as a surprise to have him selected for a gig like this.

We've known since the beginning that this version, written by Kurt Wimmer, would skew younger and include a number of different extreme sports rather than just surfing. The rest of the plot sounds more familiar, with an FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring.

The director now firmly in place, the search will be on to find a pair to fill Swayze and Reeves' shoes. Any thoughts on who could be the perfect fit?  Production is slated to begin by the end of the year.
