* Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister continues to cast up his directorial debut, Transcendence, and he's gathering a pretty awesome mix of big names and respected character actors. The latest to sign up are the always-welcome Clifton Collins Jr. (Capote) and Cory Hardrict (Battle: Los Angeles), joining Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, Paul Bettany, Morgan Freeman, and Cillian Murphy. Plot details remain slim, but we know Jack Paglen's script centers on a scientist who uploads his brain into a supercomputer after he's assassinated. Transcendence opens on April 25th 2014. * Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt is keeping close ties with one of the film's producers. Chernin Entertainment has picked up the rights to Marisha Pessl's upcoming noir novel, Night Film, for Wyatt to helm. The story will center on an investigative journalist named Scott McGrath, who investigates the death of a young woman that was originally deemed a suicide. "The woman turns out to be the daughter of a reclusive, cult horror film director named Stanislas Cordova, and McGrath finds himself on a journey of revenge and truth."
* Tom Hiddleston will take a break from making Thor's life miserable by taking the lead role in Capa, a biopic on the life of legendary war photographer Robert Capa. Paul Andrew Williams (Song for Marion) is directing, and Gemma Arterton had been set for the female lead but today it was revealed she was no longer involved. Capa covered five wars over the course of his career, from the Spanish War to the First Indochina War. Plot details haven't been nailed down, nor has a start date. [Shortlist]
