Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds take aim in 1st look at 'R.I.P.D.'

Marvel and DC don't have a complete monopoly on comic book films this summer. There's also R.I.P.D., the long-developing adaptation of the Dark Horse comic. Ryan Reynolds will attempt to move on past the Green Lantern debacle by pairing up with Jeff Bridges in the paranormal buddy cop film, and the first official still has now arrived.

Directed by Robert Schwentke (Red), the story follows two undead officers in the Rest In Peace Department, put together to investigate crimes of a supernatural nature. Reynolds is Nick Cruz Walker, a cop desperate to find the man who murdered him. Bridges is former gunslinger Roy Powell, who joins him in the investigation. Zach Galifianakis had been circling the Powell role for awhile but dropped out, and Jodie Foster had circled the film for awhile.

The two leads will have human avatars for when they're in mixed company, and Bridges' will be portrayed by supermodel Marisa Miller. So expect lots of tongue-in-cheek touches like that. Although he's currently playing the hero in Fox's The Following, Kevin Bacon will turn the tables as the villain here. If he's half as much fun as he was in X-men: First Class, this could be a real treat. Mary-Louise Parker, Stephanie Szostak, and Robert Knepper will co-star in R.I.P.D. when it opens on July 19th.
