HBO digs up paleontology comedy 'Bone Wars' with Steve Carell and James Gandolfini

They may not have been able to pull a rabbit out of their hat with The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, vanishing out of theaters faster than you can say "Abracadabra", but Steve Carell and James Gandolfini are keen on working together again. Last fall we learned they were set to star in The Bone Men, a new comedy set in the world of paleontology, and now HBO Films has picked it up, revealing some new plot info.

The duo will lead and exec-produce the film, which has been retitled Bone Wars. The title comes from the Great Dinosaur Rush, a time when interest, research, and discover of fossils was at an all-time high. The film is based on the true story of the rivalry between paleontologists Othniel Charles Marsh (Carell) and Edward Drinker Cope (Gandolfini), whose decades-long feud resulted in the discover of more than 160 dinosaurs, but also led to their mutual financial ruin.

This one's still a long ways off as a writer is being sought to draft the script. The film is being described as "sophisticated", which means it may be too highbrow for theaters, but perfect for the cable network.[Deadline]
